The Initiative for Freedom of Expression, born in 1995 with a civil disobedience action when our famous author Yaşar Kemal was tried at the State Security Court, is 14 years old now. During almost a quarter century, over 380.0000 civil disobedient participated at the crimes(!) of over 300 people form diverse social groups and ideas. The law draft that would effectively extend the ‘State of Emergency’ for at least another three years has passed the GNAT on 25 July 2018. With amendments made in many law articles including those within the Turkish Anti-Terror Law, the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations and the Law for Provincial Administration; which further conflict many provisions guaranteed in the Constitution, the State of Emergency will effectively continue, however informal.
